Aradhana Sharma breaks silence on taking forward Priya Tendulkar’s legacy in Rajni 2.0: “It’s a big responsibility to do justice to a classic”

Actress Aradhana Sharma is at the centre of one of television’s most nostalgic revivals as she takes on the lead role in Rajni 2.0, the contemporary reimagining of the 1985 classic Rajani. For millions of viewers, the original series — headlined by the late Priya Tendulkar — was more than a weekly show. It was a landmark movement that confronted corruption, questioned social norms and showcased an ordinary woman’s extraordinary courage.

With Rajni 2.0, that legacy returns, this time through the journey of Rajni’s daughter Guddu, played by Aradhana. And for the young actress, carrying forward a character that once defined Indian television comes with both pride and pressure. “It’s a big responsibility to do justice to the show because it’s a classic,” Aradhana said, acknowledging the emotional weight attached to the revival. “You can’t treat something like Rajni lightly — it’s more than entertainment, it’s a legacy. I had to be completely immersed in my character to ensure I did justice to the values and depth that the original Rajni stood for.”

Aradhana’s character mirrors the grit, moral strength and fearlessness that made Priya Tendulkar’s Rajni unforgettable — but with nuances shaped by today’s world. Rajni 2.0 explores how Guddu stands up against modern-day challenges, from institutional apathy to everyday injustice, while staying true to the essence of the original show. “For me, this isn’t just a performance — it’s a tribute,” Aradhana explained. “Priya ma’am created a woman who wasn’t afraid to speak up, even when it was uncomfortable. Through Rajni 2.0, we’re carrying that spirit forward for today’s generation — where the challenges are different, but the need for courage is the same.”

Early reactions indicate that audiences are connecting strongly with Aradhana’s portrayal, praising her grounded yet impactful screen presence. As Rajni 2.0 continues its run, Aradhana stands as the new face of a timeless message — that one voice, armed with conviction, can still spark change.
